ABOUT BRICK ERIE

Brick Erie is held in conjunction with the Erie Comicon at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, PA, right on Presque Isle Bay. Brick Erie is your chance to display your LEGO creations and builds to the public.

Brick Erie was started in 2022, and this year (2024) will be the event’s third year. In 2023, 50 AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO) from five LUGs (LEGO User Groups) displayed their MOCs (My Own Creations) and builds to the public – Charm City LUG (Baltimore, MD), Steel City LUG (Pittsburgh, PA), NEOLUG (Northeast OH), BuffaLUG (Buffalo, NY), and SnailLUG (Southeastern PA).
DATES/SCHEDULE

Registered participants may begin to arrive and set up their builds for Brick Erie 2024 starting on Thursday, September 19th. All builds and displays must be ready by 2 p.m. on Friday, September 20th when the public hours begin. All builds and displays must stay in place and fully built until the public hours close at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 22nd. A detailed schedule of hours and events will be published later this summer.
PARTICIPANT ACTIVITIES

Brick Erie is more than just displaying your creations to public. It’s also about meeting, socializing, and having fun with your fellow builders! Outside of the public display hours, various activities for registered participants will be held, including (but not limited to):

·         Thursday Night Dinner – An informal dinner will be held at a local restaurant for participants who arrive Thursday.

·         Set Drafts – Each participant brings a pre-determined LEGO set to the session. All the parts are sorted into piles of each individual piece by shape and color. Then participants draw numbers to see who chooses first and so on until all of the parts have been picked.

·         Blind Build – Participants are given a set to build without being able to see the parts. First one finished (or with the fewest errors when time runs out) wins!

·         Dirty Buildster – Participants are given a random assortment of parts and must build something based on a theme given by the leader. When time is up, the creations are judged and a winner is chosen.

·         Dirty Brickster – It’s a white elephant game, but with LEGO. Participants bring a wrapped set (usually of $20-25 in value) and the unwrapping and stealing fun begins!

·         Yard Sale – Sell your sets, minifigs, and other LEGO items to other participants.

·         (NEW!) Collaborative Build – All participants are encouraged to join our collaborative build which will be displayed in the main hall as visitors enter the convention center. The theme is “The Everyday Lives of Heroes and Villains”. Picture Superman walking his dog, or Ironman getting a haircut, or Voldemort shopping for a new robe, or Spiderman clearing out cobwebs from his attic. Modules should be built using the standard 8×8 habitat style. More details and examples can be found on our Discord server listed below.

·         (NEW!) Door prizes – Registered participants will be able to win LEGO sets using the chance tickets they receive with their registration. Additional tickets will be available for purchase to increase your chances of winning that perfect set!

HOTELS
MEAL PLAN

Due to the lack of reasonably priced dining options within walking distance of the Bayfront Convention Center, we will be offering buffet dinners on Friday and Saturday nights. Since many of the participant activities listed above start right after the public hours, having dinner on-site means you won’t have to miss any of the fun!

The buffet meals will include beverages. The cost per dinner is $20 and can be purchased with your registration. You can purchase one or both nights.
DEADLINES
- Saturday, August 31 – Last day to purchase a Premium Registration
- Saturday, August 31 – Last day to submit MOC/build details and space requirements for “guaranteed” display space. After this date, space to display builds will be subject to availability.
- Saturday, September 7 – Last day to purchase Friday/Saturday evening buffet tickets. A limited number of tickets for each night will be available on site.
- Saturday, September 14 – Last day to purchase a Basic Registration. Space to display builds will be subject to availability.

FAQs

Do I have to be a member of a LUG (LEGO User Group) to display at Brick Erie?

No. As a matter of fact, we encourage independent builders to participate!

What can I display at Brick Erie?

You may display creations that are built from LEGO bricks. However, they should be things you created, not official LEGO sets you can buy in a store. All visible parts of the display should be made of LEGO parts – lighting, printed tiles, stickers, customized figures, and minifigure accessories are exceptions. Also, all builds must be family-friendly.

Can I display non-LEGO sets, such as LEPIN?

No, all displays must be made from LEGO bricks and elements.

How much can I display?

Later this spring we will email you with a link to a site where you can begin to register your builds and their space requirements. We encourage you to register “as much as you want”, however, we reserve the right to limit your space request

If I am under 18, can I still participate in Brick Erie?

Yes, LEGO is a hobby for all ages, and we encourage all ages to display their creations and participate! However, for legal and liability reasons, if you are under 18 your parent/guardian will also have to purchase a registration AND attend Brick Erie with you. Participants under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult during both private and public activities.

Can I sell my creation or other items to the public?

No. If you wish to sell items to the public at Brick Erie or Erie Comicon, you must register and purchase a vendor space.

May I promote my business or other services with my display?

No. The only business advertising permitted within Brick Erie is at vendor tables. However, you MAY have signage promoting your LUG or a personal site, such as Instagram, Flickr, etc.
